I am currently working with Orsted A/S as Head of Grid Services developing ancillary service products and capabilities, including black start, for Offshore wind farms and battery storage systems in the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, Taiwan and the USA.

Previously I worked with National Grid for over eighteen years as a senior manager within the System Operations Department leading on the 2020 investment strategy, identifying the changes needed over the next decade to control large amounts of renewable generation and connection to Europe.

I have also worked as a consultant with the Department of Energy & Climate Change leading an in-depth study into how transmission and distribution systems might operate in 2030 with high levels of renewable generation, widespread storage and SMART grids responding to customer demand.

I have been an active member of a number of European working groups looking at ways of using DC interconnections to control the power flows from renewable energy. I was the UK representative on two CIGRE committees and a former Director and chairman of JRC, a company that manages radio spectrum on behalf of UK electricity and gas utilities. I am a Trustee Director of the National Grid Group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme.
